The Fantastic Four are cleaning house after the Secret Invasion, and Reed gets an inspiration. He builds a bridge, designed to allow him to observe other realities so he can figure out where everything went wrong. As he fires the machine up, the power is disrupted by agents of H.A.M.M.E.R.
