The Phoenix is on trial with the Shi'ar, and the verdict is quick and absolute: Jean Grey must die to protect the Universe. The X-Men fight in her defense, but Jean knows the Shi'Ar are correct, sacrificing herself along the way, only to find herself in a different time and place.
