Curtis takes on the superhero persona of "Freedom Ring" and decides to use his abilities to help people. His first outing is up against the Abomination, who seriously injures him. Fortunately, Spider-Man is there to get him to a hospital, and the Astonishing X-Men arrives to take care of the Abomination.
