Tony survives the grueling experience of Extremis exposure, while dreaming of the incident that first made him become Iron Man. Upon awakening, he tries out his upgrades, which include mental access to several electronic networks and a more direct connection to his armor. Satisfied with the results, he heads out to stop Mallen.
